Wild Obsession Book 2
What did she have to lose?
Yet another job that she desperately needed, and her heart, for starters. Tate was the kind of guy who would drive away, leaving nothing but dust in his wake. Or was he? Jill wanted to think there was something deeper there but she couldn’t be sure that there was.
Besides, no strings attached sex was obviously something he was used to. He had said it himself. He had never invited a woman to spend the night before. What kind of guy refused to sleep with the women he bedded?
One who didn’t want any kind of strings, duh. Okay, still, she was out of a job and that was really bad. She could manage Tate, and manage to stay out of bed with him too. He was like that hunk of chocolate cake that beckoned from the bakery window—inviting and decadent but sure to leave one with a pounding sugar induced hangover later.
Although, in this case, it was a little lower where she was feeling the ache…
She could resist chocolate when she needed to and she could resist Tate too, especially if she was his employee. Having him as a boss would definitely make him one whole lot less attractive to her.
What the hell was wrong with her? The last thing on earth that she needed was to take a job from him! Under the slim bands of the sodium vapor lights burning above their heads his face resembled a perfect sculpture—a study in angles, light and shadow.
“Okay, fuck it. I‘ll come to work for you but you have to promise not to try to seduce me again.”
He smiled, a slow and heart-stopping stretch of his lips across his even white teeth. “Oh, that I can promise you. I’ll never try to seduce you. In fact, I can promise you I won’t lay a finger on you.”
Uh-oh. Why did she have the feeling that she had just fucked up somehow and given him an opening? She tried to think of a way to expound upon what she actually meant but he interrupted her thoughts by asking, “Do you still want dinner? I owe you dinner, let me cook you a meal.”
“No way. You’re not getting me back into that house any time soon.”
He threw his dark head back and laughed, “Not even for work?”
“Especially not for work. Or a steak.”
“In that case we’ll just have to go to one of my favorite places.”
“Oh?”
Tate said, “I swear you’ll love it, and that there’s nothing at all about that place that screams seduction. The food is dynamite though. What do you say?”
Jill’s belly rumbled loudly, drowning out any protest she might have made. Sheepishly she admitted, “I’m starving.”
That was something he didn’t doubt. What did she eat? In bed he had noticed the almost visible rack of her ribs. She was losing weight, and not because she wanted to. She had been at the caterer’s table at the track, and she hadn’t been shy about eating, unlike most women.
